Priced per printing
A 1st Edition, a Shadowless and an Unlimited copy of the same card are different products, often an order of magnitude apart in price. PSA grades and records them separately, and so do we: each printing has its own page and its own figures.
The figure
Each graded value is the trimmed median of recorded sales at that grade. Outliers are removed using the interquartile range, and a median is used rather than an average so that one record auction or one mis-recorded sale cannot move it.
We look at the last 30 days first, widening to 90 and then 180 days only until we have at least five sales. Cards from sets released through 2007 may widen once more, to twelve months, because they trade a few times a year. Older sales appear in the history charts but never set a current price.
With fewer than three sales after trimming, no figure is published. A blank is honest; a confident wrong price is not.
Checks before publishing
Sales are checked against the seller's own listing title, against an independent price source and against the card's own price history. A sale that fails is excluded from the figure while staying visible in the record. Where a figure disagrees with independent evidence, or would price a higher grade below a lower one, it is withheld.
Sources
Sales come from public records of completed sales on eBay and at auction houses including Goldin, Fanatics Collect, Alt and Heritage. Graded population comes from PSA's population report. Card details and images come from the Pokémon TCG API.
